How adorable are these dressed up little dogs!? This photo series, a collection that has been catalogued in the Library of Congress, should be considered a discovery of hidden treasures! The images are estimated to have been created around 1905, and each photograph was taken with a large format camera on an 8x10 negative. The series is reflective of such a fascinating turn-of-the-century period, when photographs were much more rare than they are today and creativity behind the camera was still being discovered. To take a portrait, it was necessary for subjects to sit still for minutes at a time. I wonder how the photographer got these pups to stay still for so long!
The unknown artist had quite the vision and dressed up different bulldogs in timely, fashionable garb which gives each little guy or gal such incredible personality. The costumes represent the fashion when men smoked pipes and wore fancy suits and women donned fabulous flowery hats and frilly dresses. I only wish there were more to see!
