The amount of strenuous training and physical exhaustion some athletes endure is remarkable. Photographer Tomasz Gudzowaty captures the rigorous practices of lesser documented, non-commercial sports like Shaolin Kung Fu, yoga, acrobatics, gymnastics, synchronized swimming, and free-running. One common theme amongst the varied activities is discipline.
Browsing through Gudzowaty's portfolio of images from across the globe, it is difficult to gather only a small selection to showcase the photographer's work. He manages to capture impressive visuals of what seems like an endless parade of demanding training, diligence, and dedication. It is especially fascinating to absorb the body of Gudzowaty's work that also features children in training. Taking a look at his series' adult subjects, one can only assume that they underwent a nearly identical routine from a young age.
In addition to his human subjects, the committed photographer highlights the arduous life of animals. There is an undeniable similarity between the work ethic and survivor mentality of these animals, undergoing harsh weather and circumstances, and the athletes that Gudzowaty showcases. I highly recommend checking out the breadth of his work. His photo essays, each of which is accompanied by an informative back story, are breathtaking and inspiring.
