Cate is blessed with the distinguishable ability to effortlessly become her character to an unrecognizable degree - easier said than done, and something even the best paid actors today, the Toms and Nicoles and Angelinas, fail to do well. The thought of an insurmountable number of close-ups of a breathless Kidman's tightly pulled face is the reason I have not yet brought myself to see
Australia. Blanchett's versions of
Katharine Hepburn,
Elizabeth I, and
Bob Dylan are especially fun to watch.
