Customizable “Microscape” Tiles Celebrate the Beauty of Beloved City Skylines as 3D Puzzle Pieces

Sometimes the grandiose nature of architectural design makes it hard to discern smaller structural complexities. William Ngo, of TO+WN DESIGN, and Alan Silverman, principal at AJSNY, aim to change that with their miniature versions of iconic New York architecture. Their Microscape models are detailed, 1:5000 scale replicas that celebrate the sculptural beauty of the urban scene with portable, museum-quality tiles.

The creators of Microscape see the tiles being used in a multitude of ways, from decorative purposes and design aids to unique memorabilia that remind one of places and moments spent in the metropolis area. These detailed architectural models are 3D printed using aerial scan data that is consistently updated as the city evolves and grows. Manual computer modelling techniques ensure the accuracy of the replicas. Currently, over 200 individual tiles have been designed to encompass the entirety of Manhattan, however each of these can be separated into smaller, more manageable sections. The individual chunks measure 6″ x 6″ and range in height, up to 5.5 inches tall.

Microscape models allow you to carry a piece of New York City in the palm of your hand. Currently Ngo and Silverman are hosting a Kickstarter campaign to expand operations and begin replicating major cities from all around the world.
