These commercials for TV station TG4 in Ireland are very cleverly made. Created by the QMP agency they are all the same commercial but each one highlights a different aspect of the channels output. TG4 is an Irish language station and its content and output are geared towards the promotion of the Irish language, Irish culture and stories from the fringes of Irish society. The channel's tag line 'Súil Eile' means, when translated literally, 'another eye' and while this is an interesting way of looking at it being another channel another window into life, it can also be interpreted as 'Another View', which i think is a much better interpretation. The channel gives people another view of Ireland, a view that the more mainstream channels don't give to the public.
The ad itself has 4 dedicated strands to it, but if you look closely at the ad each time you will see more and more of its various elements that are not highlighted. I saw alot of the original drawings for the campaign when the pitch was being made and there were plenty of other highlighted scenes suggested. Some of them also made the final cut of the ads but are not highlighted. There is a science fiction element, a man is shot and falls, there is a cyclops and a girl with her wrists bound behind her back. It is a busy ad set in an Irish pub, your eyes get drawn quickly to the various highlighted elements, but look a little closer and you'll see many of the extra elements. The wonderful music composed and performed by Martin Tourish and his band adds real life to the scenes and shows the commitment that the channel has to Irish culture and life.
Have a look through the ad and see what strange things you see that are not highlighted. As the campaign says, 'The more you watch, The more you see'
