YouTuber BellaDeLune and Instagrammer makeupby_alo teamed up to create a video featuring their face contouring technique. Instead of it being a tutorial, the two women contoured their faces to mirror the over-the-top, visually loud and geometric aesthetic of clown makeup.
This particular video was meant to send a message to all of the critics that call them clowns when they wear makeup. “Even though you don't need this amount of makeup or any makeup at all to feel or look beautiful,” says the YouTuber. “Makeup is fun and it's a way of expressing yourself.”
Since then, the video has turned into a popular photo trend on Instagram known as #ClownContouring. Many women have pitched in by experimenting with their own makeup products to create a unique look. Once they've finished blending all of the highlighter, bronzer, and color corrector applied to their faces, their finalized images reveal incredible before-and-after transformations. The amazing results prove that makeup application is definitely a form of art.
“Clown contouring” might sound silly, but it seriously shows the power of makeup.
