
Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United won the Ballon d’Or Award (Golden Ball) as the European Footballer of the Year on Tuesday. The award is given to the best football player of the year by France Football magazine. Ronaldo scored 42 goals in all competitions last season as United won the Premier League and Champions League trophies. He dominated the poll results tallying 446 points, while Barcelona striker Lionel Messi was second with 281 points, and Liverpool forward Fernando Torres had 179. “It’s one of the greatest days of my life. Winning this trophy … I dreamed about it as a kid,” Ronaldo told the magazine. “Those who know me, who live with me, know that this is finally a dream come true for me.”
