My Modern Metropolis

What will the future of biking look like? At the 2010 Seoul Cycle Design Competition, designers from all over the world submitted their ideas and concepts. Nils Sveje of Inoda Sveje Design Studio emerged as the eventual winner.

Bike 2.0 is a next-generation bicycle that features a stepless gearbox, generator, and wires that replace the chain. An intelligent energy system employs an in-wheel 500-watt brushless motor and in-crank generator for all electricity transmission. Two wireless control units (rings) on the handle bar tell you how much energy you have left, and make controlling a breeze.

Just like a hybrid car, when the bicycle brakes, it stores energy. Without a battery, riders still get a boost from the bike's semi-conductor, while adding a seat-tube battery will get them to their destination even faster.
