Cool Concept: Traffic Light with Countdown Timer (4 pics)

How often do you find yourself stuck at a traffic light, wondering how long it's going to take till the light turns green? Damjan Stankovic's tweaked stoplight design now takes the guesswork out of that problem. The new and improved light features a progress bar which ticks away around the edge of the lamp.

Aside from calming anxious drivers, the stoplight helps inform motorcyclists that the light is working, and that the sensors haven't missed their bike. Pedestrians would also benefit, and would be saved from crossing at the wrong time and having to rush across the street.

Aside from being convenient, Stankovic believes that this idea could potentially save energy as well. If motorists knew that there was plenty of time till the light turned green, they could shut off their engines to conserve fuel.
