Creative Trends in Wedding Photography

With over ten years of experience, wedding photographer Critsey Rowe has seen trends come and go. These days, she finds that couples want photos that are "much more photojournalistic but with a fashion edge." This kick-start in creative ideas doesn't just come from the photographer, it also comes from the clients who are interested in having their sessions styled or centered around a particular theme, genre or era. "Sometimes it is incorporating props and other times it is thinking of creative posing," says Rowe.

Case in point, one of Rowe's most recognizable shots is this underwater one taken in Mexico at the Cenotes. Though she initially bought an underwater camera for a maternity shoot, she fell in love with the images so much that she started offering them to her wedding clients. "The more people that see the shots the more they want them," she says. "I now have a professional underwater casing for my real camera. They are really popular with my destination clients."

Today we've collected some of Rowe's most creative engagement and wedding shots that show off some of these trends. Notice not just the props - the bicycles and the balloons - but also notice how modern-day couples are really showing off their personality in something so basic as how their rings are displayed.
