Sparkling Glass Flowers Light Up Gallery Walls

For more than forty years, artist Dale Chihuly has wowed us with his expert glass sculpting skills. We have seen all kinds of amazing swirls, spheres, and floral glass sculptures and, according to his website, he has created more than a dozen extremely successful series of works and his glass installations have been seen all over the world. Chelsea Persians is another great example of the many exceptional installations created by the Washington-born artist.

In Chihuly's first exhibit in New York since 2006, Chelsea Persians will feature what he describes as “over one hundred Persian blown glass elements which are open, disc-like forms with striations (called “body wraps”), mounted on curvilinear stainless steel armatures that dramatically move across the walls, ceilings, and columns.” The installation will bring colorful life to the architectural space of Marlborough Chelsea Gallery. Chihuly says, “I have always been interested in architectural spaces and how a work of art can bring energy and attention to a room.” As artificial and natural lights pass through the forms of the clear and tinted glass, rainbow prisms reflect on the walls, floors, and ceilings of the gallery and Chihuly says, “The magic is in the light.”
