PhotoRadar just released their shortlist for Digital Photographer of the Year 2010. Split into ten distinct categories, this contest really showcases a diverse range of photography skills. With categories such as landscape, travel and wildlife, they're sure to inspire you not just as a photographer but as a world traveler and explorer. Of course, my favorite is the adrenaline section, mostly because of the impeccable sense of timing you need to have to get these shots. Deputy editor of PhotoRadar Jeff Meyers told us about what's going on behind-the-scenes saying, "The contest has been online for five years now after being strictly a magazine-based competition. When we went online, the number of entries skyrocketed. There were about 118,000 images entered into our 10 categories this year. So it was quite a bit of work to get them whittled down to the final shortlists! The judges actually do look at and debate each image." He continues, "This was my first year participating, as I’ve just joined PhotoRadar, and having been involved with photo competitions at prior publications, POTY showed some of the most thorough analysis and spirited debate of any I’ve seen before. The judging panel is a mix of Digital Camera and PhotoRadar staff, professional photographers and industry body members. We recently met in London and reviewed each picture from the shortlist on a large screen in Future Publishing’s corporate boardroom and decided upon the winners from each category. These will all be revealed soon." Out of all those pictures entered, check out the shortlist on PhotoRadar or see our favorite twenty-five, here.
