Hawaiian Artists Merge Styles to Create a Modern Interpretation of Adam and Eve

Paradise Lost is a creative collaboration between Hawaii-based artists Defer and Kamea Hadar in which the pair created a contemporary spin on the Biblical story of Adam and Eve. The collection of mixed-media pieces on canvas are inspired by John Milton's epic poem that traces the Biblical story of Adam and Eve and the fall of man.

According to the project description, “[Kamea Hadar & Defer's] work reflects on how the modern world of urbanization has inevitably transformed the idyllic oasis into a new thriving cultural hub.” Drawing upon iconic Hawaiian imagery, the artists have created typographic works as well as portraits and depictions of Hawaiian flowers set on fire.

The large-scale paintings are filled with a passion and energy that emanates across each canvas. Quick, lively brushstrokes blend seamlessly together with the gorgeously detailed faces or flower petals. The show opens on August 7, 2014 at the 1AM Gallery in San Francisco and will be on display through August 29, 2014.
