For a year-long initiative aimed at enlivening its campus and surrounding area, BAM has commissioned four emerging and established artist to create some exciting public artworks. Out of the 100 submissions received worldwide, BAM's curatorial committee chose works that, not only transform underutilized spaces, but also offer new and stimulating ideas about how to introduce art into public spaces.
Make a trip to 230 Ashland Place, or the BAM Harvey Theater, and you'll notice that one side of the building has been punctured, showing a hyperrealistic digital rendering of a blue sky along with a sweet-looking cloud. This whimsical installation is called The Always Season and it was created by artist Ed Purver.
As BAM states, “Purver toys with concepts of the inscrutability of faades and the unknown activity that hides behind walls. [He] plays with notions of permeability and impermanence, while at the same time implying that even despite the impossibility of holding onto any moment, a connection is always available.”
The official opening of this installation was yesterday, June 19, and it will be up until May 2013. If you're in New York, make sure to check it out!
