IBM Engineer Quits His Job to Travel the World as an Instagram-Famous Photographer

If you had the chance to quit your job and pursue your passion, would you do it? Engineer-turned-photographer Eelco Roos seized the opportunity to follow his dream, and hasn't looked back since. The Dutch creative used to work as an IT specialist at IBM Amsterdam for 10 years, but increasing freelance photography commitments finally led him to leave his day job to become a full-time shutterbug. Now, Roos makes a living teaching workshops, doing consulting work, and collaborating with tourism agencies and brands like Samsung and Sony to maintain a steady stream of wanderlust-worthy images captured all over the globe.

The photographer has Instagram to thank for much of his success. What began as a hobby for him in 2011 turned into an enviable career and a following of over 443,000 fans, making Roos one of the most popular users on the photo-sharing platform. In return, the former IT specialist provides followers with glimpses of breathtaking beauty found around the world, from the snow-capped mountains of Canada to the misty moors of Scotland.

“I haven't regretted the decision yet,” Roos said of quitting his job in an interview with Business Insider. “It's a dream come true.”
