Photographs Capture Still Moments Amid the Rush of Daily Life

In large cities, the rush of the daily commute is an everyday part of life. But, interspersed with the hustle and bustle of arriving at the train or bus station on time is that pause, when the transportation has yet to arrive. Created by photographer Elena Chernyshova, Awaiting Movement is a beautiful series that captures the very still moments of waiting in an otherwise hurried life.

Chernyshova documented passengers as they stood on a platform, stared out the window at passing stations, or caught a nap on a train car. Her compositions are filled with a beautiful silence encompassed by the rushed pace of fast-moving vehicles. Regardless of how or where a person is traveling, the process is always the same. “Whether you're in France, the Czech Republic, China, Singapore, Nepal, the expressions on the faces of the passengers are the same. Waiting for transport is a universal 'emotion,'” explains the artist. “Waiting gives everyone a moment of personal introspection.”
