Watercolor Paintings Reflect the Pure Relationship Shared Between Children and Animals

Remember when you were a child and you saw an animal for the first time? Do you recall the connection you felt to that creature, one who was suddenly so new and fascinating to you? This is the bond artist Elicia Edijanto captures in her pensive watercolor paintings. “There's an innate relationship between children and the animal kingdom,” she states. “Our children sing songs about animals, they have toy animals, they have books about animals and they dream about animals.” With this childlike sense of freedom in mind, Edijanto's work focuses primarily on the dreamy innocence that's shared between children and the natural world.

Watercolor is also a significant part of the painter's aesthetic, establishing that she made a thoughtful choice when picking this medium. “I'm depending a lot on watercolor's fluidness. In fact, I don't do much, I just wet the paper with water, put on some amount of watercolor, and then just let it flow and make its own shapes,” Edijanto told Adventures of Yoo. “Just like in real life, we can't control everything. Sometimes we have to let things go their way. Let it be.”
