Los Angeles-based photographer Mitch Dobrowner takes incredibly striking black-and-white photos of landscapes in the likeness of his inspiration, Ansel Adams. His most breathtaking series is about ominous storms that form over Wyoming, Kansas, North Dakota and Oklahoma.

"Storms are living, breathing things," Dobrowner says. "They are born everyday, they fight against their environment to stay alive, change their form as they age, they lose their strength - and eventually they die. Standing in front of one of these phenomena's of nature is an adventure into the extreme. For me, I've had the honor to witness Nature in her beauty (illustrated in landscapes) but these storms (besides being beautiful) represent Mother Nature in her ultimate anger and fury. Seeing Nature in this manner is an extremely personal level experience as it has helped move my relationship with nature and our planet to the next level.

"Whenever I shoot a ‘quality’ image, I know it. At those moments things are quiet, seem simple again – and I obtain a respect and reverence for the world that is hard to communicate through words," he continues. "For me these moments happen when the exterior environment and my interior world combine. Hopefully the images presented help communicate how I feel and what I see during those times."

"Our job is to record, each in his own way, this world of light and shadow and time that will never come again exactly as it is today."- Edward Abbey 1927-1989

He does an excellent job in capturing "this world of light and shadow and time that will never come again exactly as it is today." The choice of using black and white instead of color really enhances the raw power of nature. Fantastic find Alice! :)
