New Street Art Illusion in Brisbane

Brisbane-based street artist Fintan Magee (see previous work here) has just put up an arresting new piece in his hometown called Felix Backstroke. In what we believe to be a tribute to Felix Baumgartner's daring skydive through space, the suited up figure is seen performing the backstroke in a puddle of water (or sky). Love the anamorphic nature of this. It really does seem like he's floating.

Update: We got in touch with Fintan and asked him the meaning behind the recent work. “The piece is a picture of Felix Baumgartner swimming backstroke. It was intended as a humorous piece and I wanted to highlight that, although his jump was an amazing achievement, it was also kind of absurd. That being said I am definitely envious of Felix.

“It is painted on an abandoned old folks home in Brisbane so the site is also important, a lot of my work aims to highlight and draw people into to broken and forgotten places.”
