With bold strokes and vibrant colors, each of Francoise Nielly‘s paintings exude raw emotion. Featured many times here at the Met, Nielly continues to produce portraits rich with vital energy and sensuality. Dabbling in a variety of mediums before settling into painting, Nielly has developed a trademark palette knife technique and with each aggressive stroke of oil paint on canvas, the artist sculpts these explosive images. The knife work allows her a full range of movement and the resulting portraits are expressive and unique, distinct faces emerging from the same paints.
Growing up in the South of France, the artist shows a penchant for bright, vibrant paints that reveal an influence of atmosphere and color intensity that are so characteristic to that area. Twenty years of artistic expression has allowed Nielly to perfect her skills, and her newest collection speaks volumes to this creative maturity. Each piece communicates tangible emotion and talent. This particular series works to showcase the similarities and differences between humans, focusing on collective emotions across an array of age, race and gender.
Nielly's newest exposition, entitled Generations, will be released at Galerie Menouar in Paris, France starting October 16th.
