Towering Biodome Features World’s Largest Indoor Waterfall in the Middle of the City

Gardens by the Bay is a horticulture-themed leisure destination in Singapore that introduces nature to the heart of the city. Referred to as “a mysterious world veiled in mist” is the Cloud Forest conservatory–the man-made location of a mountain, rich with vegetation and diverse flora and the largest indoor waterfall in the world. Like a scene straight out of Jurassic Park, there are also “supertree” structures scattered throughout the Bay, composed of vertical gardens in the shape of trees that strike a delicate balance of modern technology, architecture and the unmatched presence of nature.

At the root of this indoor natural wonderland are the principles of environmental sustainability, as the city aims to raise quality of life by enhancing green space and species of flora. Planning efforts for the Gardens aim to maintain sustainable cycles in energy and water throughout, making this entrancing destination both lovely and environmentally friendly.

Comprised of two glass biomes, the Conservatories have simulated cool-dry climate of the Mediterranean, as well as semi-arid sub-tropical regions and the cool-moist climate of the Tropical Montane region. These specific habitats are some of the most threatened in the world due to climate change and human destruction. The impressive bio-domes house a diverse collection of plants that are not commonly seen in this part of the world and are also of high conservation value. Eventually the Gardens will grow to occupy 101 hectares of land within the Marine Bay of Singapore.

These indoor gardens showcase a spectacular variety of plant life and allow a whole new world of nature to be sustained in the middle of a bustling city, offering visitors a chance to celebrate and appreciate global biodiversity.
