As summer fades away and the first signs of fall are upon us, we thought it might be fun to reminisce about the hot days of the past few months with this series by New York and Caribbean-based photographer Giovanni Savino. Using just an iPhone to snap these shots, Savino documented some playful days in the Bronx, New York.
Keeping with urban tradition, neighborhood families and kids found respite from the heat by running through the heavy streams of water that shoot out from open fire hydrants. Savino captured those perfect moments when caution goes out the window and people frolic in a lively and spirited attempt to cool off, even if just for a few moments.
When the temperatures hit 100, these relaxed neighbors didn't hesitate to escape from the heat in any way that they could. The artist says, "My passion for photography is about documenting and preserving oral culture. The main subjects of my personal work have been unsung heroes of everyday life: everyday people."
