2,977 Drones Recreate NYC’s Twin Towers To Honor Those Lost on September 11, 2001

Nearly 25 years after the September 11 attacks, the Twin Towers briefly returned to New York City’s skyline. On September 9, 2026, 2,977 illuminated drones rose above the water in Manhattan. They formed 2,977 Lights Over New York Harbor, a one-night public artwork honoring those killed on September 11, 2001. The powerful presentation was a collaboration with members of the 9/11 community, including family members, survivors, and first responders.

After dark, approximately 20,000 white sunflowers begin to glow at Nagai Botanical Garden in Osaka, Japan. This new installation, Life is the Small Sun Flickering in the Dark, by international art collective teamLab transforms a seasonal field of sunflowers into a luminous, interactive artwork. teamLab works with the living landscape itself, using light, sound, and sensors to create an experience that changes with the presence of people and wildlife who encounter it.

Artist Creates Mossy Arms Wrapping a Forest in Tree Hugs

Nature is one of our greatest sources of connection, and trees represent an entire ecosystem of interweaving relationships. This is something that artist Christophe Guinet, better known as Monsieur Plant, explores in Tree Hug, an outdoor exhibit on the grounds of the Maison Chateaubriand in Châtenay-Malabry, France. The mossy arm sculptures evoke a sense of warmth and tenderness for nature as they wrap themselves around the trunks of trees.

Bright yellow strands now sway across the lawn outside Serpentine South Gallery, inviting visitors to step inside rather than simply admire them from a distance. Created by Venezuelan artist Jesús Rafael Soto, Pénétrable BBL Jaune transforms Kensington Gardens into an immersive environment that responds to every movement. Composed of 4,000 suspended PVC tubes, the installation encourages children and adults alike to slow down and weave through its glowing interior, becoming part of the artwork itself.
