If you have an Android based phone (like the new Droid) then Google just propelled you straight into the future! They have released the first version of Google Goggles into the Android Marketplace. Goggles lets users search for objects using images rather than words. Simply take a picture with your phone's camera, and if Google recognize the item, Goggles returns relevant search results. Right now Goggles identifies landmarks, works of art, and products but they expect to add much more soon. Here is an information page that explains what the app can do and here is Google's VP of Engineering Vic Gundotra explaining the genesis of this app and a number of other things Google is doing in the mobile area.
I am getting a Droid from my wife for Christmas (can't wait!) and this will be one of the first apps I install. We've blogged about Augmented Reality here before but this time it is much more integrated into the way we live. Leave it to Google to come up with something this cool!
