The Simplistic Beauty of a Flower Petal Waterdrop

Australian artist Damienne Bingham, better known online as GreenEyedHarpy, is a freelance photographer and graphic designer based in Cape Town, South Africa. In her project entitled Colour of Life, a single drop lingering on the tip of a flower petal is the main focus of each photograph. Through the development of this project, Bingham has identified ways of capturing the extraordinary in something generally considered very simple and ordinary.

The artist uses macro photography to magnify each flower petal, focusing on different textures within the drops of water set against very elegant and straightforward color palettes. By isolating the colors and objects, Bingham draws her viewers in to the simple beauty of each photograph so that we are not distracted by a chaotic background. Her cropped composition, featuring just one central focus in each shot, creates an abstract beauty of shapes, colors, and forms. The short and blurry depth of field creates the impression of painterly strokes and the images could easily be mistaken for a fine art painting.
