17-year-old photography student Ana Santl is from Slovenia and currently lives in Austria. Her beautifully lit, whimsical photos have a carefree nature about them that could only come from a free spirit. What I love most? How her sweet drawings become a part of her reality. It's like characters of her dream have mysteriously escaped.
After seeing her photos, I had to get in touch with Ana to ask her more about her style and inspiration. Read that below, while enjoying her creative set.
I love you how you mix media. Can you tell us how or why you started doing this?
First of all, thank you so much - for the feature and for your compliments. I used to draw quite a lot some time ago. Nothing really complicated or realistic, mostly just scribbling weird animals on my friends' hands and notebooks. However, I drew less and less as I started taking photos every day.
It was the infamous birdcage that made me combine both things. I was looking for one for ages and couldn't find it anywhere. Then I got the idea with the birds and decided to ignore the fact that I don't have an actual cage.
Your photos are so sweet and whimsical. Who are you influenced by?
There are so many people who inspire me out there. Rona Keller, Laura Zalenga, Lissy Elle, Nirrimi Joy, Natalie Kucken, Bracket, Kalie and Kennedy Garret, Pia Prezelj, Rockie Nolan are some of them.
There are some bands. There are books and there are movies and dreams and nightmares and thoughts. There are amazing people in my life.
What is it about photography that you love?
The safety. It makes so many moments last and saves so many words.
