Swiveling Fence Allows In Natural Light

Based in Vienna, the architect team Heri&Salli has designed an unconventional geometric structure that redefines your everyday fence. Built around a swimming pool, the curves of this modern landscape fence provide privacy while at the same time making the area feel airy and spacious.

According to Heri&Salli, “an architectural idea reaches its concept and necessity in connection with material, open space, and human being.” Drawing on this philosophy, the team tossed aside the basic functions of a fence—a barrier used to prevent entrance or to mark a boundary—in order to create an aesthetic that allows for “different spatial qualities and experience of space.”

The structure is made from diagonally patterned metal strips and diamond-shaped plates that can swivel, allowing in plenty of natural light. Functional elements blend into the design, including stairs, tables, seating, and laying areas.
