Major riots in the streets of Athens occurred after the shooting of a teenage boy by riot police over the weekend. A massive student protest against proposed government reforms of state universities turned ugly after a police officer opened fire after youths threw objects at his car. Two police officers have been arrested in connection with the Andreas Grigoropoulos' death. The Greek Prime Minister, Costas Karamanlis, has expressed his sympathy to the boy's parents, and said his government would act to stop what he called such a tragedy from taking place again.
