Chandelier Produces a Forest of Wild Tree Shadows

Bring the beauty and mystery of nature right into your home with this lovely light sculpture by creative collaboration Hilden & Diaz. The two artists, Thyra Hilden and Pio Diaz, blend their artistic interests by starting with what they describe as “existing cultural icons and basic elements, which they transform and modify to tamper with the common perception.”

Forms in Nature is a chandelier that is reminiscent of a ball of tree branches. The piece incorporates a light source at the center, which illuminates the tree and root system and casts a forest of wild trees onto the floor, walls, and ceiling of a room. The intensity of the light changes the setting of the room, moving from strong, dark shadows, to soft, flickering shadows as the light dims.

Hilden & Diaz further describe the piece: “The shadows engulf the room and transforms the walls into unruly shadows of branches, bushes, and gnarled trees. Mirrorings are thrown out upon the walls and ceilings and provide weak Rorschach-like hints of faces, life and flow of consciousness.”
