Skyscraping Hotel Pods Suspended in Mid-Air

A stay in a hotel should be a relaxing and exhilarating experience that offers something different from everyday life. What better way to experience a city with skyscraping towers than to live in between them? Architecture firm HKS Architects has come up with an innovative and futuristic design for hotel pods that float high above, in between buildings.

The spherical chambers in this conceptual project known as {Live Between} are all-inclusive rooms like any normal hotel room, featuring a bed to sleep or lounge on and a personal bathroom. The rooms contain their own low water flow fixtures and waterless toilets to maintain a low-impact environment. The waste from the pods are also converted into fuel for the transport vehicles when the traveling hotels are set to embark on their next destination.

Like a traveling circus, {LB} is meant to be a limited time residential installation in each city. Whether you are visiting a big city or are already a resident eager to see your urban environment in a new way, these pods are sure to enliven your experience as you soar high above the masses. Each giant orb is strung up by high strength cables with the site-specific design of a tension pulley system to suspend the pods. The hope for the design is to launch its premiere in Chicago. Chicago is known as the Windy City, which makes me a little nervous but perhaps also a bit more excited for the projection to come to fruition. The {LB} has already drawn up some conceptual illustrations of prospective installation sites including the space between the pyramids in Egypt. Would you stay in one of these pods?
