I Hope I'm Not Going to Hell For Saying, "I Like the Look of This Bible!" By Crush Design

Awhile back Vic put up a forum question about modern day bibles that had an unconventional look to them. Whether you think this is sacrilegious or just plain funny, you have to admit that it's nice to see the good old B-I-B-L-E getting some attention. This new cover by UK publishing house Hodder & Stoughton, is designed by Crush Design & Art Direction Ltd., who explain, "We were set a tough challenge with this brief to create a fresh new look for The Bible and make it a best selling summer read. Our illustrations made this book the summer’s must have accessory for any non card carrying Christian."

Non card carrying. Ooo don't want to touch that one with a ten foot pole.

The main idea behind the contemporary image of the Garden of Eden is that mankind has led to the “poisoning and destruction of a beautiful world”. Adam and Eve live in a consumer society gone out of control where the trees have died from pollution and where skulls illustrate the destruction of the animal kingdom. Sound dark and depressing? Well, it is. But let's just look at the interesting juxtaposition and appreciate the detail in the artwork. Very cool.

Having read the Bible cover to cover, I thought the cover indicated the truth of The Fall of man. At the creation, everything was perfect. There was no need to toil to eat. Animals didn't eat each other. Man had a direct relationship with his Creator. However, when Adam and Eve were tempted by the serpent, Satan, the world changed. The direct relationship with God was broken. A new plan of redemption was set into motion. One that required a perfect sacrifice of blood - life. A sacrifice that only God Himself could fulfill as only God is perfect in all things. Until then, Man must toil for his food. Weeds grow and take over, just as violence and the corruption of man has taken over.
The political correctness of the cover actually indicates our separation from God. Did they tell the truth by accident?

I'm looking to buy a new Bible... I'd take a look at this one if I liked the inside... Bibles are all so different.
