Giant Frozen Ice Castle to Open Its Wintry Gates in Canada

This winter in the Great White North, experience a majestic winter wonderland in the form of Canada's very first Ice Castle. The massive winter attraction will be unveiled in Edmonton, Canada at Hawrelak Park on December 30th and will run until mid March (weather permitting). The mesmerizing icy attraction will transform the local park into a giant, ice structure.

The dream-like structure–which was built under the supervision of Ice Castles, an American company that specializes in ice structures–is over an acre in size. Hand crafted and composed entirely of icicles and water, the fantastical winter destination is scheduled to be fully equipped with a waterfall and a throne room, as well as an ice slide and a winding ice maze. At night, the frozen spectacle will be lit up by thousands of LED lights embedded within the millions of icicles strewn throughout the castles, creating a magical atmosphere.

Every day, 10,000 icicles are grown and placed throughout the ice castle to provide something for the water to freeze to. Over time, the icicles are absorbed into the ice structure, adding to the foundation. The dreamland castle will constantly be changing as the winter season passes, melting and reforming to create a unique experience for every visitor.
