Everyone knows that death is a taboo subject but I believe we can learn a lot from the brave souls who stare it straight in the face. How do these people perceive the world around them? What do they think is important at this stage in their lives?

Kathleen had been preparing for her own death for over ten years when she first volunteered for hospice care. And quite uniquely, she was also a hospice volunteer. Even with a terminal illness, she continued on with good humor and a Buddhist-like sensibility - seeing her end as if it were like any other event in her life - just like her fabulous dinner parties.

Since the shooting of this video, Kathleen has passed away. This is one segment of the documentary film, Lessons for the Living.

This is incredible. She is the epitome of brave. She makes a point in saying that we should be happy. We need to be happy. I really want to see that film now. It reminds me of the film Young at Heart.
