And another all around great performance by Robert Downey Jr! - This was just after I left the theater, still excited.Synopsis:Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment present the highly anticipated sequel to the blockbuster film based on the legendary Marvel Super Hero “Iron Man,” reuniting director Jon Favreau and... Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment present the highly anticipated sequel to the blockbuster film based on the legendary Marvel Super Hero “Iron Man,” reuniting director Jon Favreau and Oscar® nominee Robert Downey Jr. In “Iron Man 2,” the world is aware that billionaire inventor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is the armored Super Hero Iron Man. Under pressure from the government, the press and the public to share his technology with the military, Tony is unwilling to divulge the secrets behind the Iron Man armor because he fears the information will slip into the wrong hands. With Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and James “Rhodey” Rhodes (Don Cheadle) at his side, Tony forges new alliances and confronts powerful new forces. [via]Currently with a rating of 74% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.7/10 on IMDB, Iron Man 2 truly entertains. There were some reviews that I read up before watching the film, and it got me a little worried, afraid that it would just be another sequel disaster, but thank goodness it was not as bad as I thought. I was lucky enough to get a free ticket for the sneaks, and the only ranting I had after the night's through is that I forgot to claim my free popcorn and drinks! But enough about that. Straight to the point, I personally thought Iron Man 2 is just as good as the first movie(but just falling short from the plot), with the action sequence, the cgi, the character development, and it was full of yummy eye candy treats made in commercial/advertising heaven, for all of the fan boys out there.Exhibit A - The BABES.

I lost count of the number of babes you see in the flick and with the introduction of Scarlett Johansson, nothing gets more tastier than that. Maybe except for the next few things I'm going to point out.Exhibit B - The TOYS.

Audi R8 Spyder anyone? You will find a lot of Audis in this film thanks to the partnership between Audi and Marvel Studios. There's also top notch and kick ass looking weaponry, including something they call 'The Ex-Wife'. LoL. And oh yes, the robots, though not as great looking as the original Iron Man suit.Exhibit C - The ACTION.

There were some pretty decent action scenes, and this is where IMAX comes in. The cgi is not there to disappoint!Exhibit D - ROBERT DOWNEY JR.

One word. NARCISSISM! Hahaha! Tony Stark is the kind of guy you'd love to hate, making countless enemies along the way! I applaud his convincing performance as well as his sense of humor. There's no one else I could see fit as nicely as him. (Well maybe for Johnny Depp, but RDJr hands down!)The rest of the cast included Gwyneth Paltrow as Tony Stark's love interest, Pepper Potts; Mickey Rourke as the main villain, Ivan Vanko; Scarlett Johannson as the hot secretary, Natalie Rushmore; and the most memorable (to me), Sam Rockwell(Charlie's Angels) who played Justin Hammer, a rival industrialist to Mr Tony Stark. Some things I didn't like:- Don Cheadle. I would rather have Terrence Howard back as Tony Stark's best friend, Lt. Col. James 'Rhodey' Rhodes. It just wasn't the same. And Cheadle's performance, to me, was a tad stiff, and I don't get that 'best friend' vibe like Downey and Howard had in the first movie.- Mickey Rourke's look. It annoys me how he looks like he never washed his hair or taken a bath on screen AND off screen. His attire on screen looked like something he would've worn on a daily basis.- The petty arguments between Stark and Potts. When they both speak at the same time, you couldn't catch a single word they say, and that's downright gibberish. The chemistry's great however.Fun Fact:- When the credits start rolling, don't get up and leave yet! There's something special being revealed at the end!- Stan Lee, the creator of all the Marvel characters, makes an appearance!- According to director Jon Favreau, the music of AC/DC is well suited for Tony Stark himself; leading the to the band's appearance within the film.Trailer: Alright, that's about it for my review. I rate it a 8.5/10. To summarize it off, it's your typical popcorn movie that's raised the bar slightly higher than all the rest. If you watched it, let me know what you think! Some images via Rotten Tomatoes.

  • Haha, my pleasure Kevin! The reviews for IM 2 ain't exactly fantastic, but it's better than most sequels *cough Spiderman 3 cough*. Just leave your brain out the door, and don't expect a thick, thought-provoking plot, and you'll thoroughly enjoy it. :)
  • I thought the first one was good but not great. Being an old school comic geek I will be going to see it. Thanks for the review Amy.
