I've had a spare bedroom in my house that has been, well, way too spare for the past few years. As in, a bed, a dresser, and basically a lot of dead space. I mean I don't have so many visitors over that I need a whole room set aside for a continuous flow of friends and family coming in and out.
But I do get dressed everyday - and who doesn't need a little extra space for their shoes. So recently I 86ed the bed and moved in an extra dresser that had been moldering in storage. The result is a delight - pure and simple. A nice big dressing room/closet that I can close the door and have all to myself. One of my favorite things is the color of the dresser that I moved in.
This was my mom's dresser for years, and when I moved out here to East Coast I brought it with me. Unfortunately I didn't have a great place to put it so I misguidedly put it out on an enclosed porch for a couple years. Yes, you guessed it... the freezing cold from Winter cracked the top, and the humidity in the Summer ate away at the finish. It was a big maple mess, but because it was my mother's there was no way it was getting chucked. I moved it, dried it out and painted it a few weeks ago. I've never had much luck with painting furniture but I was pleasantly surprised this time. I used Benjamin Moore Pearl Finish Paint in New York State of Mind (#805) and just love it!
To compliment that shade I painted the actual closet in the room San Francisco Bay (#802) in flat (above). It totally reminds me of Carrie Bradshaw's closet!
I also moved a bookshelf from the basement in to display some shoes and hat boxes. I love that it has wainscoting - sort of gives the look a little extra interest.
I also added some hooks and a couple small shelves to display some of my favorite dresses, handbags, and hats.
