Naturalistic Paintings Created on Musical Compositions and Fallen Leaves

For Janette Rose (aka @JanetteRose), art doesn't have to follow rules, and this sense of freedom has lead her to painting on unconventional surfaces. She opts to display her naturalistic imagery on tattered sheets of music and fallen leaves, breathing new life into two things that are often discarded.

Colorful, giant butterflies grace the pages of gospel tunes. Painted in a realistic style, Rose adds subtle drop shadows beneath their giant watercolor wings, producing the illusion that these patterned creatures have landed directly on the papers. In a similarly life-like manner, the artist also paints animals on large maple and sycamore leaves. Her small paintbrushes add delicate details like tiny feathers, water droplets, and branches, and they recall the type of quiet nature scenes you'd see while on a hike.

Despite the visual differences of these canvases, they both support Rose's artistic philosophy. “There is so much beauty in the world,” she writes, “It is a joy to make it come to life in different forms of art.”
