Seeing the Outline of a Room Through Magical Light Waves

Finland-based artist Janne Parviainen creates the most magical photographs in this series of vibrant light paintings. Varying his camera exposures from a few seconds to hours at a time, Parviainen uses an empty room as the canvas for these enchanting paintings. He says, "What interests me most in light painting is the ability to draw in three dimensional space and the possibility to alter the reality without post processing programs."

The artist describes his work as expressionist with a hint of graffiti or graphic art. With the camera shutter open, he moves and sways throughout a room to fill the space with light, and the images that are created come directly from the camera without any digital manipulation. He uses all kinds of gadgets to build the compositions, including colored strobes, flashlights, light toys, or specific light painting tools. Rather than presenting simple graphic lines and swirls, Parviainen prefers to include some human aspects in his photographs, painting the shapes of human bodies in order to tell a more personal story and to create an emotional response from his viewers.
