This self-portrait series by photographer Kalliope Amorphous ripples with flowing movement and emotion. Entitled Glass Houses: Self-Portraits in a Moving Mirror, the series portrays the artist as she explores what she calls "the fluid nature of identity." In each composition, Amorphous uses her self as the subject to visually convey they way interior personas can be altered by how we are externally perceived.
By using a flexible mirror and dramatic lighting, the self-taught artist produces visually intriguing abstract, malleable shapes that suggest disfiguration of the human form. Viewers are confronted with beastly figures and then left to develop personal impressions of who the person is beyond the surface.
The artist says, "In this project, I confront questions of self-image and the ways in which our interior worlds conflict with our exterior form. How does the image that we present to the world differ from what we see when we look in the mirror? If our desires, fears, secrets and vulnerabilities were manifested physically, what might they look like?"
