Living Dream Created Through Long Exposures

Visual artist Kalliope Amorphous works with conceptual and experimental photography to create this series entitled In Dreams. She uses what is called a stroboscopic approach, where a collection of multiple actions is frozen within one single frame, using long exposures and flashes of light.

The succession of images passing through each frame is like a living dream. As the women shift and move, their figures slowly disintegrate into smoky blurs of color. The high contrast of light against the black background also evokes an emotional response. Acting as her own model, the artist explores the concepts of identity in a beautiful, poetic, and distorted process.

Amorphous says, “I push the boundaries of what I define as “self” and “other” by playing with ideas of identity, gender, archetype, emotion and the visual interpretations and possibilities that exist within them. I do not consider myself a photographer, but rather an artist and storyteller using the camera as a tool to create.”
