New Surreal Flying Houses Tell Fascinating Stories

Photographer Laurent Chhre continues his Flying Houses series with more surreal photos of buildings flying in mid-air. While his first set didn't have any obvious signs of people living in the homes, the new works show fascinating details of both animals and people either bursting out of or teetering out of the buildings. Look closely and you'll see a chimp relaxing on the roof of a six-storey dwelling or notice a mysterious woman precariously perched outside the window of a mannequin-filled room.

Along with his older works, Chhre is showing a new set of photographs at the Muriel Gupin Gallery in New York from now till February 22. As the gallery states, “In his second show in the United States, award-winning French photographer Laurent Chhre will present 5 new iconic Flying Houses at Muriel Gupin Gallery. Laurent Chhere, a French photographer born in 1972 in Paris, makes images of flying houses and other dwellings that are informed by his wanderings in the hidden neighborhoods of Paris and by his love of cinematic history. The charming manipulated images, part digital, part analog depict a dreamlike world where his reconstructed houses appear to float in a silvery sky. Several titles are taken from classic films, such as Who are you Polly Magoo to name just one.”

The up-close shots really make your imagination wander.
