These electronic ballet shoes are a new creation that allow dancers to track their movements through visual translation. The device, called Electronic Traces (E-Traces), was developed by graphic and product designer Lesia Trubat, an artist who is captivated by dance.
The innovative pointe shoes feature new technology, developed in collaboration with Lilypad Arduino Technology, that is actually attached to the shoes that are worn during a practice or performance. Through pressure and movement, the device translates the dancer's motion into digital pictures. Afterwards, the dancer can review all of his or her movements in video format and even print them for review.
According to the project statement, “Dancers can interpret their own movements and correct them or compare them with the movements of other dancers, as graphs created with motion may be the same or different depending on the type of movements executed and the correction of the steps and body position.” You can watch the video below to learn more about this inventive concept.
