"Macaron Hair" Trend Brings the Colorful Beauty of Delectable Desserts to Hair

There's something about macarons that makes them more than just tasty sweets. The variety of ethereal colors they come in make them just as much of a feast for the eyes as they are a delectable dessert. Having recognized the visual potential of the pastry, hairstylist and colorist Shelley Gregory decided to translate it into her craft. Inspired by the famous Ladure macaron and pastry shop founded in Paris, Gregory explains, “Everything from the crown molding and the way they display the macarons – it sticks with you. It's kind of like Disneyland, where it's magic. I wanted that feeling when you look at this hair.”

To fully capture the multi-sensory excitement of what she envisioned, Gregory used a spectrum of muted hues. “You see rainbow hair but it's too much,” she says. “I wanted it to be a toned-down rainbow. And something yummy-looking!” In the end, the tastefully prismatic style (referred to as Macaron Hair, or Candy Unicorn Hair) features seven flavorful colors–purple, pink, peach, yellow, blue, mint green, and silver.
