Artist Commemorates the History Behind Her Father's Vintage Tools

Graphic designer Maki Yamamoto likes to begin every day with a photoshoot to help get her creative mind ready for work. Using her collection of vintage tools, tickets, stamps, and more, the artist designs arrangements, playing with color, size, shape, and texture. She'll often add various plants to her spreads, to give each piece a lively pop of green that perfectly contrasts the worn, rusty appearance of her objects. “Things that have been worn out with time and damage carry a lot of history and love of the people who used them,” Yamamoto told Instagram Blog, expressing her own love for these keepsakes.

The artist's father's past occupation as a repair worker actually helped foster her attachment to all things vintage. Seeing her dad restore well-loved possessions made an impression on Yamamoto, inspiring her to do the same thing with her work. She explains, “I have a growing fondness for his old tools and wanted to do something with them.” By sharing this familial love for antiques, the artist mainly aims to make others happy. Whenever she posts a new arrangement on Instagram, Yamamoto hopes that her followers discover something that makes them smile.
