Color Bursting Optical Illusion Sculptures by Matt Moore

Artist Matt W. Moore just wrote to us to tell us about a massive new update he's done to his web portfolio that shows color bursting works he's created within the last two years. One of the most fun projects takes the optical illusion idea he's famous for, particularly in his canvas paintings, and brings it to live in 3D form.

The 17 indoor and outdoor sculptures were installed in downtown Moscow during Sretenka Design Week. Made of PVC and fiberglass, they were spray painted in such a way that you almost can't tell each sculpture's true shape.

As he tell us, “During the process of painting the sculptures I created mysteries where some parts looked like transparent planes and facets, and other parts looked like they were coming towards the viewer when they were actually going away. This made it fun for viewers trying to decipher what was really happening with the forms and colors and what was illusion.”
