Wildlife photographer Michael "Nick" Nichols has been capturing intimate portraits of African lions and elephants for years, giving insight into their daily lives. The dedicated photographer manages to get in close to the wild creatures through a variety of methods including the use of a rover, ultimately providing stunning portraits of the untamed beasts as he explores their habits in their natural habitats.
Through his photography, Nichols pays homage to the animals who freely roam about their native African lands. He documents their daily activities while raising awareness about their imminent dangers, in terms of potentially facing extinction due to poachers and urban expansion leading to their natural environment shrinking.
A selection of Nichols' images of lions and elephants are currently showing at Anastasia Photo in New York through October 30, 2013. There is also a corresponding book titled Earth to Sky: Among Africa's Elephants available in limited quantities through Aperture.
