Intertwined in a Double Exposure Forest

Michel Assaad created this project, entitled La Double Vie (The Double Life), by merging two very different scenes together into one engaging composition. Using Photoshop, Assaad blended all kinds of stark tree branches with very solitary silhouetted figures. A lone man riding his bike becomes an intriguing moment of contemplation as the intertwining branches fill the space around and through the subject.

Choosing to present his images in black and white adds to the isolating atmosphere of each photograph. Viewers can take a visual journey into the scene without becoming distracted by a large palette of colors and will find themselves captivated by the naturally overlapping patterns and textures in each photograph. The artist says, “I wanted to keep things as natural as can be, that's why you'll find spots that could've been cloned out, healed or burned to get a perfect shot but perfection wasn't something I was going for, it was complete opposite that I [sought].”
