Photographer Documents the Amusing Ways His Girlfriend Tries to Hide from the Camera

Some people are naturally camera shy and prefer to live their lives off-film. This, however, is a challenge when your significant other is a photographer. Mikal Theimer tried many times to take a picture of his girlfriend, Marion, but she would always attempt to dodge his lens. Instead of giving up, Theimer cleverly changed his approach: now he documents all of the ways in which Marion tries to hide.

Theimer's project soon became a game between the couple. “Whenever I see a scene I would love to photograph her in, she has to find a way to hide her face,” he explained to The Huffington Post. “I find it results in much more interesting pictures than just traditional portraits.”

Marion does more than just turn her back to the camera. Her hair and mittens become unconventional shrouds, and she holds book covers and coffee mugs to block her face. The ensuing images are candid and lighthearted, capturing a quirky slice of the their life together. Ultimately, they tell us much more about Theimer and Marion than a perfectly-composed picture does, for a charming effect.
