Striking Handmade Cypress Tables Crafted with Glow-in-the-Dark Resin

Mike Warren's handmade tables light up the night with decayed cypress boards, brilliant glow-in-the-dark resin and a simple, clever design. Warren, an editor of DIY forum Instructables, recently released step-by-step instructions and a video about his process, which includes hollowing out damaged cypress planks and filling the cavities with a mixture of glowing powder and resin. The resulting table radiates a vibrant shade of blue in partial or total darkness.

Once Warren planes his cypress boards to the desired size, he glues them together and cleans out the soft streaks of decay. He mixes clear casting resin with high-grade strontium aluminate pigments in a 1:1 ratio and pours the compound into the cavities. Once the piece dries overnight, the glowing pigment charges up in ultraviolet light and can shimmer vibrantly for periods of up to 20 minutes.
