CreativeMornings is a monthly breakfast lecture where a speaker shares their story. Each event includes a 20 minute lecture, followed by a 20 minute group discussion. The gathering begins at 8:30am, the topic presentation starts at 9:00am and everything is done and people are out the door by 10am. To change it up, Tina tries to pick a new place for each monthly event. Since the event is free, everything is donated, including the space and the services (photography and video). In fact, you can check out CreativeMornings on Vimeo if you can't make it to the meetings.)
Tina set the LA bar very high by kicking off today's event with Zach Frechette, one of the co-founders and the editor-in-chief of GOOD Magazine. Zach shared his inspiring story about how GOOD has taken off over the past five years. You'll be able to watch it all on Vimeo once it gets uploaded. The most interesting story was about GOOD's clever business strategy. Instead of sending out millions of pieces of junk mail to get people to subscribe, he partnered with a bunch of non-profits so that the $20 subscription fee would go entirely to charity. The idea was that they would incentivize consumers with the benefit that their money was going to charity, they would incentivize charities to reach their members for the donation, and they'd enjoy the added marketing and PR that would come from having an innovative strategy. Overall, it was a win-win-win.
If you're in LA, New York or Zurich, try and attend one of the CreativeMorning events. For everyone else, keep up-to-date by following CreativeMornings on Vimeo. Also, don't forget to bookmark Swissmiss and Good Magazine, two excellent daily reads.
