Nat Geo's Exciting New Shark Series + Sunglasses Giveaway!

Our partners over at National Geographic Channel just sent word that they'll be premiering an exciting, new summer series this Sunday called Expedition Great White.

In a never-before-attempted research effort to study massive great white sharks in the wild, science and sport fishing join forces 160 miles off Baja California. The series chronicles the savvy crew as they lift SUV-sized sharks out of the water with a specially modified hydraulic cradle, take measurements and DNA samples while pumping water into the shark’s mouth to keep it alive, and release it unharmed … in less than 20 minutes.

Their goal? To unravel the mysteries of the great white’s life cycle ― where they are born, how they mate, where they migrate and where they congregate ― to help conserve and protect these endangered animals.

Check out some first photos of the series:

And some sneak peek video:

As a special treat, National Geographic Channel is giving away one sweet pair of Costa Del Mar's Fisch sunglasses that retail for $149-249 right here on thMET. The sunglasses earned the name “Fisch” from Chris Fischer, legendary oceanic explorer and part of the National Geographic Channel series Great White Expedition. In addition to glare-killing lenses, Costa’s Fisch features a signature three-hole venting system on the frame front to eliminate lens fogging. Outside magazine announced its Summer 2010 Gear of the Year award winners, and Costa’s Fisch style nabbed the top sunglass spot in the Outside Spring/Summer Buyer’s Guide. "The Fisch is your upgrade to HD reality," said Outside Buyer’s Guide Editor Sam Moulton. “Most gray-tinted lenses flatten the view, but not Costa's optically ground 580™ lenses. They killed glare and made colors pop."

So how are you going to win them? Easy!

Just tell us why you love the National Geographic Channel That's it. Best answer wins. You must answer on this post's comments section to win (not on Twitter or Facebook). Contest ends Sunday, June 6, at midnight PST. Good luck!

When you think of quality you think of National Geographic. Their editors, stories and movies have always delivered the best quality and user experience. I find it of no surprise that they have teamed up with Costa Del Mar as they are the hands down leader in sunglasses designed for capturing the beauty of the outdoors. Expedition Great White is going cement the fact that National Geographic braves the untamed and goes where nobody has been before. Great choice on the crew selected as I have followed these guys for years. Expect National Geographic to keep you on the edge of your seat through this series. If outdoors and sharks aren't your thing, take a peek at series such as "Lockdown" and "Locked Up Abroad" as they will definitely make you and your kids think twice about committing crimes especially overseas.

The National Geographic Channel lets me explore the world without ever leaving my home. But it doesn't end there, it makes me want to go out into the world and help the people that need it most. It shows me different angles of reality that print can't deliver: it helps me explore the living moving world. The fact that the people at National Geographic love animals and care about the world as much as I do gives me hope.

On another note, I grew up reading National Geographic Magazine. We've had a subscription since before I was born and still have all the copies on our bookshelf. I just have so many great memories doing projects and learning from them (even though I was never allowed to cut them up, they were always too precious). They've had an incredible impact on my life, more than I've ever thought ... they got me into photography when I was in 5th grade and helped me realize I wanted to travel the world. I would never be where I am if it weren't for them.

I love watching National Geographic for the intense feelings it gives me of feeling like you are with them in the hunt. It is a great escape from reality to watch and learn of places I may what to personally go. To see the places National geographic goes to is a wonderful treat and leaves me wanting more. Keep up the good work National Geographic with pictures from the deep part of the oceans to deep in the rain forest. I will continue to enjoy your great works!

Great science and natures wonders all with stunning filming and photography, to make us understand our world and dream of the day humanity will respect nature and who knows go back to be part of it.

In a world consumed with sensationalism and unreal reality, Nat Geo is TV I can watch presenting a true reality and an educational way to look at our world and all that lives in it together, symbiotically. It is the true reality TV that we can all learn from.

Nat Geo always has engaging programming - my favorite is Locked Up Abroad. Really great stories and great execution. I love how they show flashbacks and keep you engaged the whole time. Looking forward to this new series, too! Thanks, Nat Geo!

National Geographic offers the insight that our planet is not our planet, but rather something that we share.
Also, I absolutely love sharks! I have dived with sharks in Mexico and South Africa. It is an experience without comparison, and it breaks my heart that these wonderful creatures are endangered because of our greed.

I love National Geographic for all the dedication they put into getting footage. For instance, it's amazing how crews camp out in freezing temperatures to get footage of polar bears, or how they live in African jungles for weeks just to get a chance to capture a few shots of a rare species in their own habitat. Absolutely amazing...

Nat Geo hands down offers the beautiful imagery on paper and TV. I really do think they invoke our curiosity and satisfy our craving to learn and see something new. The media today is filled with so much reality tv and crap that its nice to know there are still educational shows along with just appreciation for the world, culture, science, and art.
